ABOUT IQALUIT DISTRICT EDUCATION AUTHORITY
The Iqaluit District Education Authority (IDEA) Board Members are municipally-elected community members elected to represent Iqaluit parents, students and the community at-large to the Nunavut Department of Education and Iqaluit schools.
The IDEA is legislated to exist under the Nunavut Education Act.
The IDEA has sub-committees for each Iqaluit school that work regularly with school administrations to resolve issues and highlight opportunities. In addition, there are 3 other committees which serve the Board addressing all four school needs: 1) School Calendar, 2) Finance and 3) Policy.
The IDEA strives to hold meetings on the first and third Mondays for every month that school is in session (please confirm meeting schedule on this website under Tab "More" and "IDEA Board Meeting Dates & Information"). All meetings are open to the public. Parents of students are encouraged to attend to share concerns, successes, and ideas. The IDEA also welcomes your letters, emails and phone calls as a means of contributing to the Board's discussions.
If you wish to raise a topic with the IDEA and/or to speak at a meeting please contact the IDEA Office Administrator by email at idea_office@qikiqtani.edu.nu.ca, or by phone at (867) 979-5314.
Mission Statement
The Iqaluit District Education Authority, in partnership with the community, shall strive to provide an inclusive educational environment that will assist our children in achieving their full academic and personal potential.
